The Good the Bad and the Damned Anti-Social |
|
I'm English, so I don't speak a word of Swedish, and so I find the forum "challenging" to say the least when I try to read it.
I started a post to ask why planes aren't in SH. I never said they should be put in, as the mod is fine without them, I just wanted to know why.
So I got absolutely flamed. Flamed for not reading the other threads which I can't read anyway!!!!
I have now looked at some of the other threads which a helpful person showed me.
I just wanted to thank the people who stood up for me: and to ask the others to be more tolerant in future, I asked a question, its not like I did anything wrong. The forum is mean't to be for asking questions, isn't it?
It would also be nice If my own thread wasn't locked before I get a chance to respond to the replies to my post.
If you feel like giving me more abuse, to put it lightly, I DON'T WANT TO KNOW.
I just ask everyone to be more co-operative, Silent Heroes is a team game is it not?
You can see the thread I'm talking about here http://www.silentheroes.se/forum/viewtopic.php?p=54134#54134

Out of 7 replies I counted 5 helpful and/or directing ones and 2 not helpful but still not flaming ones.
I agree that you should be allowed to reply yourself, but the thread was most likely locked only to prevent it from being "infected" with futile discussions as so many before it.
I hope you don't consider this post flaming, I'm only trying to show that we are not such bad people here at the forum

Few of the replys were a little harsh, and I can understand that finding anything understandable on this forum is a hard task. I'm pretty much on your side on this one, straight answers and less nagging would have worked better.

OK Limber, I guess I over-reacted, but even the helpful replies were quite rude or patronising, just because I can't speak Swedish doesn't mean I'm stupid.
As for Swedish lessons, well........
I don't think I'll be going to sweden any time soon, and learning an entire language for a computer game seems too much like hard work. I'll stick to English which you all seem good at (did you all have to learn it at school??), and my limited knowledge of French.
P.S. Thanks for your support Atiko.

Now that I've listened to my swedish lessons, I still have absolutely no idea what the hell any of it means. It was very funny, and about as helpful as a chocolate fire engine. But thanks anyway, Embra, I needed a laugh.

And yes, English is mandatory at school from (i think) 3rd grade to 9th grade minimum. most do 2-3 years additionally. And we do not have dubbed movies, only subtitled, so all brittish and american films help with learning the language.
Also, from grade 7 upwards you can choose one of the following languages: German, French & Spanish.
Also, Norweigan is very similar to swedish and we understand each other very good. Something like an aussie talking to a scotsman. We both also can read and sometimes talk to the Danes.
Oh, and in about 1/4th of Finland, Swedish is the native language.

Nevermind, we all have a pretty good grasp of just how hard it is for a foreigner to actually learn swedish. There have been discussions as to whether all forum posts should be in english, but that was scrapped since something like 96% of users are scandinavian.
Still, the rule is that if a post is started in english, it should countinue in english. So that's helpful at least
And the tone CAN be pretty harsh here at the forum, especially in the swedish-speaking posts... I guess that's why I think you were treated ok, since I read all the swedish posts where people are not just flamed, but cremated
Everything is relative...
Anyway, if you have any questions, don't be afraid to ask - but read and reply quickly (you could have hit one of those sensitive subjects, then you have like 30 minutes before the thread is locked) and don't take everyone too seriously. Some of us are just having a bad day. Or life...
