There has been a lot of arguments on the BF2 forums about the 'noobification' of BF2 and the steps away from rewarding players that practise a lot, something that is crucial in the eSports-scene.

You might also have heard that for SH v1.1 and SH:VA we will include a new concept regarding the handguns.

So without further delay, here is Beta 1 of zKills for BF1942.

What is it?
It's a concept minimod for BF1942, showing off partly the new weapon-design in SH, but also to show others, non-SH-players, a working solution instead of the forced spread that DICE uses.

Background
Given the recent complaints about BF2 taking a turn for the worse in case of weapon-spread and visual mis-representation of it, I decided to make this little minimod. It's based on my work with SH v1.1 and SH:VA, due to be released later.

In short, it removes all added spread due to shooting, and increases the amount of recoil. This removes the discriminating randomness and makes it possible for a player to reduce the spreading of bullets.

Not everyone will like it - but every player in the eSport-scene should appreciate whenever skill supersedes luck.

It should support all vanilla BF1942-maps, in all game-modes (conquest, ctf, coop).

Let me know if you have any problems and please give your viewpoint on this concept.

To download the mini-mod, just head over here:
http://www.silentheroes.se/getfile.php?id=47 (271KB)

15:10 CET: File was re-uploaded since it contained 2 spelling-errors in MP18 and M1Garand. Would generally not break the functionality, but anyway...

Re-download if you downloaded the file before this message to be sure that you are runing the latest version.

For all you lazy dogs out there who are thinking "maah, I'll just browse the web instead, trying out a new minimod is a waste of time, maybe I'll even play WoW instead..."

Don't. Try this mod out. Since I've played around with the concept I can really vouch for the fact that it's a whole new experience, a whole new way of plowing down your foe. Smile

So try it, and tell everyone what you think here.

Imo, this is better than having enormous spread and a gigantous crosshair when moving *cough* FH *cough*. WarFront did this and I liked it back then. I say let the recoil effect remain the same for different firing stances, differentiating means promoting camping and dull gameplay. Good work.

Is it just me, or is the name of this mod a horrible, horrible pun.

Will try it out and modify this post whit comments in a bit.

EDIT: Feels a bit Counter-Strikey with automatics, other than that it's something I can get used to.

Also, I am now more firmly than ever convinced that the name is a horrible, horrible pun.

I did try it out and I think it's a very fun idea. What I can say about it is that I'm not used to it, so it's damn hard to kill the enemy at first. But, on the other hand, it's the same for everyone, so that makes it a challenge.
You should really try it out.

HeHe Lingon, the easy target Very Happy
I love this "mod", and killing lingon with the Medic Sub on long range was a pice of cake. This is exactly what an old man needs Twisted Evil

I tried the mod yesterday and I liked it, but I'm not that keen on full-auto weapos so I used the sniper rifle all the time cause it reminded me of zQuake, (railgun ftw) Twisted Evil
The few times I used automatics I found out that it was kinda tricky to keep the sights on the target.
It's an interesting (mini)mod and next time I play it I will try to use automatics instead, so I can give a proper review.

Hi Zarkow !

I tried to download your miniMOD but the file is not there anymore. Maybe you need to upload it again, because we can't test it if we can't get it, right ? :-)

The files are up - but the ftp server in question seems like it's temporarly down (as of 10/1/08 02:16 UTC+7). Worked some days ago (downloaded some of the movies back then).

Hopefully it will be up quickly.
